About the Riding Zebra

Hi there! We’re Isabella and Pietro. Married with 3 kids, we live on the lovely Mediterranean Island of Malta.

We have curious minds and itchy feet so we’re often on the road on our motorcycle or otherwise, any chance we get.

With over 10 years of globetrotting across more than 20 countries, we decided to start this blog to share our experiences and hopefully inspire you to discover more of the world.

THERIDINGZEBRA, how cute is that?! I’m sure the inspiration for the name is quite obvious but just to be clear, it’s a name that represents the seamless connection of our diversity and our love for travel.

The idea for The Riding Zebra all began in 2019 when Pietro decided to bring back motorcycle riding into our lives.

With the first lifting of the Covid restrictions in Italy, we decided to tentatively restart our travelling but to stay within Sicily, close to home.

So, as soon as we could, we hopped on our motorcycle and began our very first motorcycle road trip. A trip that would bring us even closer together and open our minds to see places differently. This is why we decided that our very first post would be about our first long motorcycle trip around Sicily which you can read here.

To our newly acquired biker eyes, the grass became greener, the air crisper and the people seemed closer. We’ve been able to really make the most of our travels by getting to know the lands we travel to intimately and all the beautiful people we’ve encountered have broadened our perspectives on life.

It is this perspective that we would like to share with you through this blog..

Meet the Pilot

Ciao, Sono Pietro!

That translates from Italian to “I’m Pietro” in English. That obviously makes me Italian, from Sicily. Being Sicilian, I love great food, the sea, and being with family. I’m an engineer who got into bikes in my 20s, participating in several local motocross competitions and winning too! So motorcycles have always been a big part of my life.

When on the road, I’m in charge of deciding the routes (the narrower and more mountainous, the better!), logging logistics, and keeping track of costs. The motorcycle is, of course, my responsibility too. I’m a devoted father, movie enthusiast, and DIY lover when we’re not traveling.

E kaabo! Orukọ mi ni Isabella

That translates from Yoruba to “Welcome everyone! My name is Isabella”. That makes me Nigerian Yoruba is one of the many languages we speak). Besides travelling, I love food, family, and fashion (my very own triple F mantra!).

Unlike Pietro, organizing isn’t my forte. However, I enjoy carrying out research writing. Consequently, I’m the official “researcher” for the places we visit, including accommodation and activities. I also take zillions of photos while at it!
